In the midst of the COVID Pandemic, the demand for Notary Services has increased. Most people never really understand what it's for or why it's needed, but they know that it's important for them to have!

Notary Services can vary depending on your needs but for the most part, they are performed by an official Notary Public to serve as a fair witness in a variety of fraud-deterrent acts related to the signing of important documents such as legal documents.

Now that you know what Notary Services are and who performs them, here's what you need to know in order to prepare for your appointment with a Notary Public:

  1. Be sure to arrive at your appointment on time. You don't want to have to pay more money or risk your appointment being rescheduled for being late.

  2. Bring a non-expired, government-issued ID. This could be a Driver's License, Passport, Green Card, or state ID. Work IDs and school IDs are not acceptable forms of ID.

  3. Bring a witness with you, if it is required, and make sure that they arrive on time with you to your appointment. Your witness must personally know you, cannot be listed on the document you're having notarized, and must also present a form of non-expired government-issued ID.

  4. Make sure you know what type of notarization you need before your appointment with the Notary Public. You can contact the person or establishment requesting the notarization and ask them what kind you need and the Notary Public will perform that duty at the time of your appointment.

  5. Bring your own black or blue ink pen to sign. To help stop the spread of COVID it is best for you to use your own pen instead of sharing with the Notary Public, although some Notary Publics may have a separate pen that you can use. Documents signed in any other color than black or blue ink are not acceptable.

  6. Keep your receipt from your Notary Public. In case you ever need to show proof of whom you met with or in case you need your documents notarized again, it's good to have something to refer back to!

In the event of you not having any of the above-listed items, it is best for you to reschedule your appointment until you have them. This way you don't waste your time going back and forth with appointments.
